Last week, at Flash Memory Summit, the fun continued with a successful second day! Our Principal Engineer, Jim Fitzpatrick, started the morning off with a compelling session on “The Impact of Dwell on Flash Reliability.” After Jim’s talk, our President, John Scaramuzzo, delivered an outstanding keynote on “Flash Storage Meets the Content Challenge” to an audience of 500. In John’s presentation, he discussed the cost tradeoffs between different flash technologies when used within a variety of applications within the data center. After the keynote presentation, John quickly made his way to the press room where he addressed questions about his keynote, as well as the current competitive landscape, to a room of more than 30 members of the media and analyst community.
Back on the show floor, we stole the spotlight with one of the more creative booths in the exhibition hall. Our booth greeted attendees as they entered the show floor. With a theme of “What is in your Storage DNA?”, our team could be found wearing lab coats inside the “SSD engineering lab.” Our team was also out in full force and hard to miss with bright green shirts on as they went from session to session.
We had many attendees stop by the booth to not only check out our Optimus demos but also to enter a raffle to win one of three Kindle Fires. To enter the drawing, participants were required to fill out a market survey and submit their business card. Siwei Wen was the winner of the first Kindle Fire drawing, and he can be seen showing off his new SMART Storage Systems-branded gadget below. The last drawing for the Amazon tablet will be today at 1:45 p.m. at the SMART Storage Systems booth. If you are interested in taking our survey or winning a brand new Kindle Fire, stop by!
On top of presentations, keynotes, press conferences, demos, surveys, and raffles, we also met with a number of potential customers, journalists, and analysts. We had great conversations with several analysts including Greg Wong from Forward Insights; Bob Merritt from Convergent Semiconductors; and Michael Yang, Dee Nguyen, and Ryan Chien of IHS iSuppli and ended the day with a talk with Dave Bursky from Chip Design Magazine and the TweakTown team. We were thrilled to meet with these industry influencers.
